Wikipedia are holding their annual conference at the Watershed on Saturday (16th April).
They have asked us to spread the word and invite people to participate.

I recently spoke to Steve Virgin at Wikimedia about this event, which looks like it might present some very exciting opportunities for Girl Geeks in Bristol. It’s on Saturday 23rd March from 9:40am – 4pm at the Merchant Venturers building at Bristol Uni.

Our next Girl Geek Event is going to be at Bristol University on 23rd March from 6pm. We will be serving a free buffet and the guest speaker will be Ann Blandford, Professor of Human–Computer Interaction in the Department of Computer Science at University College London. After getting off to a great start last February with some fabulous speakers and sponsors, life and work got in the way for us at Bristol Girl Geek Dinners and we ended the year rather quietly.
This year we’re happy to announce we are back and we’re determined not to lose momentum – but to do this we need your help. If anyone can spare a few hours a week to help with admin getting sponsors or organising or hosting events then we’d love to hear from you!
To start the year we’re going to have an informal social event at the Watershed in Bristol this will be on Thursday 27th January at 7pm.
We are also planning our first formal dinner of 2011 for March and details will be available here as soon as they are confirmed.
This Thursday (23rd September), we held our Reading Girl Geek Dinner event, which was a very special one: Girl Geek Dinners was turning five!
And to celebrate it, we had GGD’s founder, Sarah Blow, with a very interesting talk about “How It All Began”. It was news for some, and very nice for all of us to remember or find out how GGD started 5 years ago.
The event was held at Glo, very fitting venue, abundant and nice food and with lots of good conversation. It was great to see new and familiar faces: thanks to those of you who came along, despite the terrible showers that happened precisely when we were supposed to start.
Thank you as well to our kind sponsors, DediPower, who supported us on this very special occasion – and also provided some goodie bags for the attendees.
We will soon be planning our next event, which will be in late November. Let us know if you are interested in speaking or sponsoring and, in any case, we hope to see you at the next Reading GGD!
