We are being hosted by what must be Bristols biggest Unicorn this month. They’ve stepped in when our earlier sponsor had to step down due to unforeseen circumstances. Rather than let you down for a second month we did a callout to see if any other comapnies could save the date for us and Voila!! Graphcore stepped in. Think AI, electronics, Robotics and … well anything really!
Graphcore has created a completely new processor, the Intelligence Processing Unit (IPU), specifically designed for machine intelligence. The IPU’s unique architecture means developers can run current machine learning models orders of magnitude faster. More importantly, it lets AI researchers undertake entirely new types of work, not possible using current technologies, to drive the next great breakthroughs in general machine intelligence. We believe our IPU technology will become the worldwide standard for machine intelligence compute. The performance of Graphcore’s IPU is going to be transformative across all industries and sectors, whether you are a medical researcher, roboticist or autonomous car manufacturer.
Helen Byrne will be giving the intro to Graphcore.
Helen has been a member of the Graphcore Research team since July 2018, working on distributed processing of machine learning models. Helen has a degree in Mathematics from the University of Bristol and a Masters degree in Artificial Intelligence. Before finding her “calling” at Graphcore, Helen was a secondary school Maths teacher and worked in Investment Banking at a fintech startup in London.
This will be followed by 3 lightning talks (10min each) from Graphcore women engineers:
Helen Byrne – ML Research Engineer
Arianna Saracino – Product Support Engineer
Joanna Taylor – Silicon Product Engineer
Welcome drinks and food and registrations will take place on the 5th floor (Graphcore reception) with the talk happening on the 6th floor.
There is no parking space available on site with the exception of parking for people with special mobility requirements. Should anyone need that, please ask them to contact us beforehand so we can ensure this is sorted

Talk starts at 7pm to finish by 8pm
Then feel free to enjoy food, drinks and networking from 8-9pm

As always, we welcome men to our group, but to keep our audience predominantly female, we ask that all men are accompanied by a woman (just add a +1 on the meetup) here Bristol Girl Geek Dinners
We will also shortly be making a change to our code of conduct based on feedback from our members – we will mail this out seperately.
