Next event: Thursday November 18th GGD #46 Talking Green energy with Christina Daly from OVO Energy

“Nearly everything we do revolves around energy. Most of us have heard that the risk of blackouts this winter is up. On the 4th of November National Grid announced a supply crunch alert asking companies to reduce their energy demand causing electricity prices to spike and fears that there will be widespread blackouts this Christmas.

By 2020 the UK aims to have 30% of its electricity coming from renewable sources but parts of the grid can’t handle the solar power being generated. How are the fascinating developments in smart grid, renewables, storage for electricity and in home technology going to revolutionise energy and help us meet our targets?”

This month our speaker is Christina Daly. Christina works in OVO Energy in the Transformation Department looking at how OVO can better use the technology and systems available to improve customer experience and drive down cost. OVO wants to revolutionise the energy industry and is investing heavily in green & community energy as well as smart meters to bring down bills and keep it simple for the consumers. Prior to working at OVO Energy Christina worked at Accenture as a software developer and now runs coding workshops for employees in OVO in her spare time and is the champion for the Bristol@OVO CoderDojo. She holds a BAI in Computer and Electronic Engineering from the University of Dublin, Trinity College.

After Christina’s presentation we will open the floor up for a discussion as discussed in the previous ‘extraordinary’ meeting, if anyone feels like they would like to bring along any ppt’s or links that they want to share for discussion then please bring it along on a USB or mail the team with info and we can share this during the discussion period.

This month’s event will take place on Weds 18th November at Ovo Energy’s Offices at 1 Rivergate, BS1 6ED Bristol. Please sign up on our meetup page here http://www.meetup.com/Bristol-Girl-Geek-Dinners/events/226672989/
