Bath Girl Geek Dinners

Who we are

We are a group of women who regularly meet up to share ideas and discuss the latest developments in the tech industry. Our Girl Geek Dinners are open to all women and earthlings identifying as female as well as non-binary people interested and / or working in tech.

Our members range from students to established professionals – all with one common goal – to help and support other females in the STEM and related industries by sharing ideas, information and connections.

Why we were set up

Bath Girl Geek Dinners were set up in 2012 by Parm Dlay, Operations Manager at Bath Innovation Centre, to help to inspire more females to get involved in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) industries by providing connections, information and resources. Bath Girl Geeks are a branch of the original Girl Geek movement established by Sarah Lamb in 2005.

In 2018 Marianne Wise and Fran Zuch restarted the group after a couple of years of fallow following Parms departure to move to the neighbouring city of Bristol. This was supported by the Bristol Girl Geek Dinners who were well established at this point in time.

The format of our dinners

Our meet ups consist of food and drink, inspirational speakers (who have been there and done it) and the opportunity to network with peers and other professionals. They are supported by companies wishing to engage with our members and encourage a diverse culture within their companies.

The Girl Geek Legacy

The original Girl Geek Dinner concept was founded in 2005 as a result of girl geek Sarah Lamb‘s frustration about being one of the only females attending technical events and being asked to justify why she was there by her male counterparts. She decided that she wanted this to change and to be treated just the same as any other geek out there, gender and age aside.

The Main Vision

The long term vision of these events is to bring Geek (or if necessary Girl Geek) Dinners into schools, colleges and universities around the world to encourage people to embrace their passion for technology and to explore what they can do with it.

* Attendees must be 18 years or older. Gender non-conforming folks are welcome as members, Male attendees must be invited by and attend with a current Girl Geek member.
