Today we’re happy to announce that Hungary has just joined the countries that now host Girl Geek Dinner events. You’ll find these events in Hungary in the city of Budapest and you can find all the details about the events and more over on their website and you can also follow them on their Twitter account.
If you are interested in the stats, this now brings the total number of countries with Girl Geek Dinners to 25 and the total number of cities to 74!
E in Italia?

Well, the winner is not a girl geek but a male guest (or sacoche as we like to call them): Gerrit Vromant (@vromant) with his idea for a Walkie-Talkie data-call application:
What the jury liked:
Nice app that combines various functions of the phone (maybe combined with GPS)
We are going to the vacation time here you can Talk to your whole family at the same time a great new way to communicating
the app is social but e.g. in your family and it combines voice with a twitter like function.
The 32nd edition of Brussels Girl Geek Dinners is planned for Tuesday 22 June 18:30-21:00 in Brussels. Wiki will open up shortly. But first: please fill out this survey on Information Overload, or as we prefer to call it: infobesitas.
Some people think that Brussels Girl Geek Dinner is an organisation. I think it’s really a network, and depending on the channel some of the nodes are more active than others. This twitter list explorer tool is not perfect, but it provides a nice snapshop of the Brussels girl geeks who are active on Twitter, and who’s talking to whom.
Tonight Tuesday8 June, 25 Belgian Girl Geeks will challenge the attendant men to a gaming tournament, organized by Rock Star Games. They will take a stand against each other playing Red Dead Redemption, the long expected successor of the Grand Theft Auto games.
During the battle, there will be a delicious Western style BBQ at the inner court of the PR’ins showroom.
A domani!

The world of games is still considered as a man’s bastion by some.
However: the past few years lots of women started gaming.
This is why on Tuesday the 8th of June, PR’ins and Brussels Girl Geek Dinner organize an heroic ‘battle of the sexes‘ in the heart of Antwerp. 25 Girl Geeks will challenge the attendant men to a gaming tournament, organized by Rock Star Games. They will take a stand against each other playing Red Dead Redemption, the long expected successor of the Grand Theft Auto games.
During the battle, there will be a delicious Western style BBQ at the inner court of the PR’ins showroom.
Red Dead Redemption is a sandbox-style action-adventure western video game with role-playing elements developed by Rockstar and released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in May 2010.
The game takes place in the year 1911 in the American Old West territory and follows John Marston, a former outlaw, while he tries to save his wife and son, taken by government agents, by capturing and killing his former gang members.

We are now into our fourth month of Winnipeg Girl Geek Dinners, and so far the interest shown has been fantastic! We have had great speakers come out and shared excellent company together.
To continue to grow and cater to our members, this month we are holding a planning meeting on Tuesday, May 11th 6:00 PM at Aqua Books. We will begin as usual in the EAT! Bistro and move up to the small meeting room shortly after 7:00 PM. So we know how many people to expect, please RSVP via Eventbrite above or via Facebook.
This event is for everyone; those who are interested in helping out, those who want to share their ideas, and those who want to attend and observe. If you are unable to attend, but want to be involved, please send me an email. To get a feel for what people are intersted in, we have prepared this two-question survey: http://polldaddy.com/s/12503A062EC6F079.
Areas where help is needed:
looking for speakers, venues, sponsorship
sharing ideas for future events
making blog posts
maintaining Facebook group/fan pages
maintaining Twitter presence
Also, for those of you interested in .Net development, there is a free all-day Visual Studio 2010 launch event on May 11th that is being held at IMAX, Portage Place. It starts at 8:00 AM and ends at 5:00 PM, so you can just walk over to Aqua Books afterward for the Girl Geek dinner. Check out http://www.dotnetwired.com/ for more information.
Come and geek out with us at the next Winnipeg Girl Geek Dinner at EAT! Bistro in Aqua Books on April 13, 2010, starting at 6:00 PM. Everyone is invited; enthusiasts, students, professionals, young and old. Guys are invited too; the rule of thumb is to be invited by another girl attending. Admission is free, but you pay for your own food and drinks (excellently priced and delicious). There will be some door prizes drawn courtesy of Microsoft.
The tools of social media are multiplying every day: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, FriendFeed, blogging, StumbleUpon, Google Apps… But behind them all is the idea of interacting with others for a variety of purposes in your professional and personal lives.
Liz Hover and Polly Washburn will present an overview and demonstration of some of the current tools for engaging with others in the digital world, and answer your questions. To attempt to tailor this ever-changing topic to meet the needs of their audience, Polly and Liz would like you to put the “interactive” into “media” via a short web survey:

We are setting up regular Reading Girl Geek Dinners for this year: we are holding them on the THIRD Thursday of each month after this session. We are always interested in your opinion, what you would like to hear about and, of course, if you wish to sponsor the event.
We are also delighted to announce that Natasha O’Brien has joined the Reading GGD team.
Our next event is Thursday 1st April (no joke!) and it is sponsored by Microsoft UK. We will be going back to La Tasca in central Reading.
The event will commence at 6.30pm; a lovely tapas dinner will follow from 7pm and we will have some time for networking during and after the meal.
The theme of the evening is “Dedicated to Ada Lovelace”. We will have a very interesting and entertaining speaker: Rachel Cooper, from Graphico – who will be talking about how she started in IT and about the amazing figure of Ada Lovelace.
Full Details:
Date & Time: Thursday, 1st April, 6:30pm for a 7pm start
End Time: Late
Venue: La Tasca, Reading
Hosted by: Girl Geek Dinners
Food & Drink: Spanish tapas, buy your own drinks
Subject for the evening: Dedicated to Ada Lovelace
Format: Reception, Dinner, Conversation
Capacity: 40 people
