Carolina Girl Geek Dinners Event

Carolina, Locations, USA Comments Off

For the first quarterly event of 2010, we have a great evening planned!

Social Networking has a new meaning these days… it’s online and virtual. It’s no longer limited to mingling at a party or meeting someone for a drink. How many of you have been connected with someone you never would have come across (or possibly not even remembered!) if it wasn’t for Facebook or MySpace?

The first topic of the evening will be “Social Networking: Social and Professional Uses” presented by Charlotte’s own social media gurus, Anita Blanchard and Angela Benton.

Speaking of social networking, are you a member of the Carolina Girl Geek Dinners groups on Facebook and LinkedIn? If not, get out there and join us!

Secondly, we’ll be hearing about Dell EqualLogic, presented by Dell’s own Chris Mojica. We’ll see and hear about how IT’s wish list has been exceeded with Dell’s EqualLogic storage solution.

When: February 25, 2010
6:00 – 6:30PM: Registration, Dinner buffet, and Networking
6:30 – 8:00PM: Presentations on Social Networking and EqualLogic
8:00 – 8:30PM: Door Prizes and Networking

Where:
Dilworth neighborhood Grille
911 E. Morehead
Charlotte, NC 28204
Note: We will be located in the Morehead Room

Guy geeks are invited if accompanied by a girl geek. This event is FREE for all, but RSVP is required as space is limited!

Thank you to Dell for your support and generously sponsoring our event!

Where have all the Girl Geeks gone?

You’ve probably been wondering why you haven’t heard from us lately… so I wanted to post a note to let you know that we have not disappeared and we are indeed still here! We are trying our best to keep all the Girl Geek Dinners free (yes, FREE!) for all attendees. In order to accomplish that, it takes a company to step up and volunteer to sponsor an event. We’ve been very lucky to have great sponsors for past events, but recently, are having a hard time to find a company who would like to sponsor one of our events. For that reason, and now that it is getting close to holiday time, we have decided to plan our next event for January and in the meantime, we’ll be working very hard to get a sponsor. We’ve also got some great speakers lined up for January that I am very excited about!

Keep posted and enjoy your holidays!

Finally… the video of our second event!

Welcome, all you Carolina Girl Geeks!

Carolina, Locations, USA Comments Off

Welcome to Carolina Girl Geek Dinners! We are inspired by the original Girl Geek Dinners and our mission is to create an informal platform where technical girls of all ages can network and learn from others alike. This is a group of women in IT who are interested in networking with other women in IT. The idea is to get a group of women who work in technology together to discuss their experiences and exchange ideas in a comfortable, non working environment.

Girl Geek Dinners are organized all over the world and we are the 5th group in the United States! The events are typically held in restaurants, bars or other common meeting areas and there is usually a speaker who talks for a short while on a chosen subject for the evening followed by networking and good times! Our events will be held in Charlotte, NC.

Are YOU a girl geek?

Girl Geek: A female who has an interest in technology, particularly computing. Not necessarily technically minded.

Stay tuned for more information on the 1st Carolina Girl Geek Dinner event…

Until then:

  • Continue to visit this site for updates
  • Visit us on Facebook
  • We are looking for all your ideas on making this a great opportunity for local technical women to meet - if you have any input or suggestions, contact us here!

We look forward to meeting you! Until then, continue to be a proud girl geek!
