We’ve had a busy start to the new year with a new country (Syria) and a new City joining the Girl Geek Dinners fold!
Damascus in Syria is the latest group to start up in what promises to be an exciting year!
Here’s what Nada the founder of the Damascus Girl Geek Dinners Group has to say about why she wanted to start the group.
“I have noticed that female students have less chance to attend technical workshops than that of male peers as it is difficult for girls to meet late after school . Usually in these technical encounters, the students come up with new ideas for real business projects. Organising regular meetings for Girls to exchange technical ideas will have maximum effect in supporting the presence of women in business in the future. These meetings would prevent male domination and the imposition of their visions, which usually forces women to withdraw from the workshops and technical meetings.”
We are looking forward to hearing about the great things this group is doing in the future!
This brings the total Girl Geek Dinners country count to 27 and city count to 81. I suspect by the end of 2011 we’ll be over the 100 groups worldwide and who knows how many countries that will span!
