Le GGD Milano presentano su Web@lfemminile la donna del 2010

Le Girl Geek di Milano, le donne appassionate di tecnologia, contribuiscono all’iniziativa Web@lfemminile di Microsoft Italia, per offrire la loro visione della donna del 2010.

Sul sito www.webalfemminile.it, realizzato per ospitare dibattiti e interviste a donne e uomini che parlino di come la figura femminile sta vivendo il nuovo millennio, alcune delle nostre speaker hanno offerto il loro punto di vista.

Paola Dubini, direttrice del Centro ASK (Art, Science e Knowledge) e professore associato dell’Università Bocconi di Milano, ha presentato uno studio su 500 mamme-blogger, figure fondamentali nel processo di formazione dell’opinione soprattutto contestualmente alla diffusione delle tecnologie digitali, e sul loro modo di gestire la privacy. La ricerca era stata presentata alla nostra GGD#9. (Il video lo potete trovare in questa sezione)

Miriam Bertoli, di TSW, ha definito il concetto di “brand identity”, spiegando come sulla rete sia importante pensare a se stessi come a un marchio da proporre. Dunque, quali scrupoli farsi prima di mettere il proprio curriculum online, quali punti di forza mettere in evidenza, come tracciare ciò che viene detto di noi sul web, in modo da definire, controllare e gestire con consapevolezza la propria identità virtuale. Emma Tracanella, consulente IT e componente del team GGD Milano, ha parlato della propria famiglia online. Quali domande porsi prima di pubblicare la foto dei propri figli su un social network, come ciò che diciamo di noi sul web può toccare le persone che ci sono vicine e che possono avere un concetto di riservatezza estremamente diverso dal nostro. Le ricerche e le linee guida presentate dalle nostre speaker rilevano una connessione cruciale tra donne, tecnologia e internet: un rapporto fondamentale, sia nella loro vita quotidiana sia sul posto di lavoro.
Per le Girl Geek il primo decennio del nuovo millennio è stato segnato da un’evoluzione esponenziale nelle capacità, negli interessi e nelle competenze delle donne nei confronti del web, dei nuovi media e della tecnologia in generale. Un uso sempre più consapevole delle nuove tecnologie disponibili, che consente loro di affrontare le sfide professionali quotidiane, sempre al passo con l’innovazione.

Intervista a Giuliana Laurita – Cofounder di The Talking Village

Giuliana Laurita è professionista della comunicazione online, imprenditrice e…  mamma. E’ cofondatrice e partner di The Talking Village, progetto di conversazione virtuale tra consumatori e aziende che ha lo scopo di contribuire alla nascita di idee per prodotti e campagne creati “dal basso”.

Hai avuto esperienze molto diverse: imprenditrice, ricercatrice, concept designer, passando anche per la semiotica. Quale definizione daresti di te stessa come professionista?

Credo di essere essenzialmente una comunicatrice. La semiotica è il punto di partenza: il linguaggio è soprattutto un modo di pensare, non solo un modo di esprimersi. Le esperienze successive hanno contribuito a farmi capire cosa significhi fare comunicazione: dai diversi approcci a seconda del mezzo al potere della comunicazione di creare modelli culturali.

Sei cofondatrice di The Talking Village. Com’è nato il progetto? Qual è il tuo ruolo?

The Talking Village (TTV)  è un progetto nato in rete, dall’incontro con la mia socia Flavia Rubino . Ci siamo conosciute online (io leggevo il suo blog, lei il mio).

Il concetto base di TTV è consentire alle persone di comunicare, in modo diretto con i brand e viceversa, secondo quanto riportato nel Manifesto di TTV. Io e Flavia ci occupiamo sia degli aspetti commerciali che di quelli operativi. Anna Lo Piano ha sposato subito il progetto e altre persone si stanno aggiungendo.

Parliamo di Mamma in corriera: com’è nato il tuo blog?

Ho iniziato molto presto a frequentare i blog: ce n’erano alcuni, all’inizio degli anni 2000, che seguivo addirittura in maniera maniacale. Ho iniziato a commentare molto più tardi e a quel punto è iniziato tutto. Mio figlio aveva circa 3 anni e vivevo in solitudine tutte le ansie e il disagio di una mamma che lavora e si sente inadeguata su tutto. Di colpo il mio problema erano diventate le mamme. Così  ho aperto il blog . In realtà nel blog ci finisce di tutto, lo considero il mio spazio di libertà.

Quali strumenti utilizzi per essere sempre aggiornata?

Posso dirlo? Lo dico: non sopporto i quotidiani. Trovo che la stampa italiana sia troppo concentata sulle opinioni e assai poco sui fatti. Li ho sostituiti con l’informazione online, con migliaia di blog nel mio feedreader e con un uso massiccio dei social network: FriendFeed, Facebook, Twitter e aNobii, la mia fonte inesauribile di aggiornamento sui libri che sono una mia passione.

Sei mamma, blogger, professionista, hai partecipato all’organizzazione del primo Mom Camp italiano… Hai sempre mille progetti da gestire ma quali strategie utilizzi per organizzarti al meglio?

Mi arrangio. Sono pigra, ma curiosa. Il problema sorge quando mi interessano troppe cose. Ho imparato a fare i salti mortali, inoltre muovendomi con i mezzi pubblici posso leggere e ho sempre qualcosa per potermi collegare a internet.

Nel tuo percorso professionale hai mai incontrato degli imprevisti? Come li hai affrontati?

Pacchi di imprevisti! Ho imparato che a tutto si può rimediare, che non si può sempre vincere e che spesso servono tempi lunghi.

Mi è capitato di leggere una frase attribuita a Johnny Depp: “Il problema non è il problema, ma il tuo atteggiamento nei confronti del problema”. Ecco, che Johnny Depp potesse diventare un guru è veramente una cosa che mi fa rotolare dalle risate, ma credo che sia molto vero.

Quali sono i siti, le applicazioni online, i device che usi maggiormente e che vorresti consigliare alle Girl Geek?

Ho acquistato un Blackberry Storm, ma l’esperienza è abbastanza deludente. In un anno di vita è già stato tre volte in assistenza. Non posso rinunciare ad evere sempre con me un browser e l’email e passerei volentieri all’iPhone. Un altro oggetto del desiderio è l’ebook reader. Per il resto il feedreader è essenziale, ma anche del.ici.ous e le agende condivise. Ci stiamo dotando di un wiki per poter lavorare a distanza, che è la nostra condizione normale.

Quali passioni riesci a coltivare nel tuo tempo libero?

Prima che nascesse mio figlio, io e mio marito, andavamo sempre in barca, ma nonostante le buone intenzioni dopo non ci siamo più riusciti. Poi ci sono i libri.

Un’altra passione è la Provenza: ogni volta che abbiamo tre o quattro giorni ce ne andiamo lì, ci aiuta a ritrovare i tempi giusti, quelli veri.

Che consiglio daresti alle Girl Geek che vogliano seguire un percorso professionale come il tuo?

Non so se il mio percorso professionale possa essere di esempio per qualcuno. Nel caso, l’unico consiglio è: non smettere mai di essere curiosa. Leggi, documentati, stai sempre in contatto con il tuo network e allargalo ogni volta che puoi. Se ti viene un’idea, non lasciarla perdere finché non ne hai scoperto tutte le sue potenzialità: pensa se ti capitasse di inventarti facebook e mollassi il colpo perché ti sembra una sciocchezza!

Next Girl Geek Dinner Melbourne – The Kanzaman Restaurant

Hi everyone,

Girl Geek Dinners is back from hiatus and we’re happy to announce that Google Australia is sponsoring our next dinner, which is being held on Monday, April 19 at the Kanzaman restaurant.

L’appuntamento è per mercoledì 31 marzo e l’iniziativa si svolgerà interamente sul web, all’indirizzo www.webalfemminile.it.

24 ore non stop di dibattiti, interviste video, quiz, docu-fiction e molti altri approfondimenti, dedicati a mettere in contatto esponenti del mondo politico, specialisti, VIP, giornalisti, manager e cittadini per parlare della “Donna del 2010” in tutte le sue sfumature.

In attesa della vera e propria maratona digitale del 31/03, è già attivo il sito dedicato a web@lfemminile con i primi contributi di esperti e personaggi dello spettacolo, oltre a una divertente “web sitcom” che invita gli utenti a raccontare con i propri video la loro visione della donna agli inizi del terzo millennio.

Dinner 10 with Tammy Halter

This month we’re fortunate enough to have Tammy Halter as our guest speaker. Tammy Halter is the founder and sole Director of two technology companies, Absolute Data Group, and Broadcaster Media. Tammy has over 15 years experience in the information technology field, including SGML/XML publishing and document management experience with various software integration companies. Tammy has been a technical trainer, support engineer and project manager for several SG/XML software Distributors over the years, including the Frame Product Engineer, Asia Pacific & Latin America for Adobe Systems in 1997.

The path to being a Geek, does not have to start with a Degree in Technology.

It’s never too late to get into the tech industry, more than 1/2 of my staff  (including myself), started out in another industry and "changed over" to a career in the dark side (I.T.)!

We need to encourage and educate young women and have them understand that there are many aspects to the Technology Industry’s, and you don’t necessarily have to be a Programmer or a Scientist to have a love for the industry and to be a geek at heart.

Abstract

Men want to know: Which gifts impress a woman?  What is the best strategy for approaching a group of women in a pub?   And women might wonder:  How do you know if your partner is the right one?  And is it possible to predict whether your relationship will last with the help of a formula? Love and mathematics hardly seem related but mathematician Ionica Smeets will answer these pressing matters of the heart with the help of some mathematics.

Speaker Bio

Ir. Ionica works for “Public Understanding of Science” (Leiden University). Half of the week she researches there – with Bas Haring – how science can best be explained to a general audience. The rest of the week she writes articles, gives lectures and presents science days. On June 16 2010 she will defend her thesis “On continued fraction algorithms”. Website: www.ionica.nl.
