It's been a lovely restful summer and now Girl Geek Dinners is back for the Fall season.
There is a chill in the air and the fall fashions are out. This September we wanted to talk about being a conscious consumer and keeping fashion close to home, all while being fabulously fashion forward. To help us out we have invited Rachel Dhawan of
Brazen Design and
Things That Go Bling to do two events.
The first event on
Saturday September 5th will be in conjunction with the
S.W.A.P. team '
Take Off Your Clothes' event at
Piknic Electronik on Parc Jean Drapeau. Rachel will be on hand from
4-7pm for free on-site consultations - helping people on a first-come first-serve basis to pull together the perfect outfit. We'll also have some picnic blankets ready for some socializing so come down and say hi!
When: Saturday September 5th
Hours: 4-7pm
Where: Place de l’homme at
Piknic Electronic on Parc Jean Drapeau [
Map]
Price: Entrance to the Piknic Electronik is $10
The second event will be a few weeks later (date and location to be determined) where Rachel will talk about the hows and whys of buying local. She will also be featuring her Top Ten Must Haves & Where to buy them locally & her Top Ten Fashion Faux Pas.

Rachel Rachna Dhawan is the owner of
Brazen Design, a line of big bad silver bling. She launched her business as well as her local fashion blog,
Things That Go Bling, in June 2007. Things That Go Bling showcases Rachel’s passion for local fashion through features of local boutiques, designers and sales events, as well as fashion tips and street style specials.

The
S.W.A.P. Team is a non-profit organization founded by Aleece Germano and Nicole Picard. Through its clothing swap event
Take Off Your Clothes, the group endeavours to promote sharing as an antidote to overconsumption while increasing awareness of the human and natural resources involved in the creation, transportation and marketing of mass-produced consumer goods.

The title of this blog post is only slightly misleading: on Friday 28 August the Brussels Girl Geek Dinner girls were invited to a Klarafestival concert of Israeli cellist Gavriel Lipkind and pianist Roman Zaslavsky. In the video embedded below you’ll notice at around 1:50 that Mr Lipkind likes to pull his sidekick’s leg from time to time.

Come Martina stessa ha tenuto ad evidenziare “il senso di tale partecipazione è quello di accostare la novità di elementi tipicamente artistici al continuo evolversi della cultura tecnologica“.

The last few weeks of summer mean we're gearing up for an amazing new season of Toronto Girl Geek Dinners!
I'm very excited to be working with a stellar group of organizers for the upcoming season of events. We have TGGD co-founders
Maggie Fox and
Jenny Bullough on board. We're pleased that
Heather Leson has joined us. Heather was a huge help with our events in the Spring.
The organizers took some time this summer to look at where we're at with TGGD and how we can best meet and exceed the expectations of our amazing members. We are making one change to our meeting sign up process. We've decided to charge a nominal fee (around $10) when people reserve for one of our TGGD events. This should help us cut down on no-shows and make sure that we maximize the positive experience of our TGGD events for participants and sponsors.
Oh, and save September 29 for the next TGGD. Event details are in the works.
Leadership Development Opportunity for TGGD MembersWe have a late summer treat for you! Members of TGGD get $75 off the fee to attend the September 18, 2009
Poised for Leadership coaching workshop.
To qualify for this special TGGD, please write the code "TGGD" on your registration form. This extraordinary workshop is designed for high achieving professional women, early to mid career, who want to fast track their transition into leadership roles.
Through a combination of case-studies, self-assessment tools and small group discussions, you will learn proven strategies for adding value to your organization, gaining recognition and credibility, communicating with confidence and authority, establishing your brand as a leader, expanding your sphere of influence, and accelerating your career development. Every participant will leave with a personal action plan for breaking into a leadership position. Are you ready to explore your leadership potential?
